SBG’s James Gallagher Signs for Bellator
SBG Ireland’s Gallagher Joins Bellator MMA
Congratulations to SBG Ireland’s James Gallagher, who this month signed for Bellator MMA, one of the world’s largest MMA promotions. James Gallagher is one of SBG’s most exciting young prospects from the same SBG Ireland gym that has produced multiple UFC stars to date. James has put together a string of impressive amateur and professional wins over the past two years, winning eight fights in total, while only nineteen years old – a record that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the US-based Bellator promotion. The deal comes as six SBG fighters from the Pacific Northwest compete on the upcoming Bellator 155 card in Boise, ID.
Gallagher has had three professional fights to date, all within the past six months. Each of those three fights ended with James winning in the first round by way of submission. They followed on from three more submission wins at amateur level earlier in 2015. Gallagher has one more fight with the UK based BAMMA promotion in June before he moves over to Bellator, so his first fight with them is still to be determined.
Speaking to local newspaper the Strabane Chronicle, Gallagher was excited and confident about his new Bellator contract, and his prospects with the new promotion:
“The opponents I’ll be facing, it won’t be much of a step up for me. I’m training with the best in the world day in, day out so it will make no great odds to me. I’ll just keep going in there and putting them away.
“It is the best contract anyone starting out has been offered. They want to build me as the next Conor McGregor…I think the contract is deserved because I am going to make them a lot of money.”
With three first round submission pro wins already, at just nineteen years old, and under the tutelage of SBG Head Coach John Kavanagh, there is no reason for Gallagher to not be confident. SBG’s ability to constantly innovate and redefine the standards of MMA training means that the heights an athlete like James can reach are yet to be seen. Best of luck to James Gallagher and the whole SBG Ireland team during this exciting time. The whole tribe can’t wait to watch you competing under the Bellator banner.
