Paul Douglas Makes Professional Debut This Weekend
SBG Mainline’s Douglas fights at BAMMA 17 in Manchester, UK
Joining the ever-growing ranks of Straight Blast Gym’s professional fighters this weekend will be SBG Mainline’s Paul Douglas, who makes his pro MMA debut on Saturday, December 6th against Borys Feldman at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, UK. But if Douglas is to be believed, a professional debut is only one step on a journey to bigger things. This article provides a great in depth interview with the Straight Blast Gym athlete, one in which he goes so far as to predict that he will soon be recognized as one of the best featherweights in the UK.
Paul Douglas’s pro debut comes as a result of his impressive unbeaten run at the amateur level, securing six victories that saw him end up winning the British Amateur Lock-In championship in July. Only one of those six fights went to a judges’ decision, picking up the other five wins via either TKO or submission inside the time limit. With an amateur record like that, there can be little wonder why Douglas is brimming with confidence ahead of Saturday’s contest.
With regards to the fight, Douglas states:
“To be honest I don’t see my opponent making it out of the first round. I am in the best shape of my life physically and my mind is sharper than ever.”
His opponent, Feldman, will be making his pro debut in the fight along with Douglas. As such, it has been difficult for the SBG team to find out too much about his fighting style. This has not given Douglas any cause for concern:
“I don’t know a lot about my opponent. All I do know is that he is making his pro debut like me. I don’t really care about him or what his game plan is to be honest. I will just go out and concentrate on my game and that will get me the win on the night.”
And with the focus being on Paul Douglas’s own game it comes as no surprise that he is feeling positive. Douglas talks at length about the work he has been putting in, and the progress being made thanks to his team mates and coaching staff at SBG Mainline, with special mention to SBG Mainline head coach, Karl Tanswell, who he believes will safely guide him on his journey to becoming one of the best featherweights around.
