Holohan To Fight Louis Smolka On UFC Dublin Card

SBGi Ireland’s Paddy Holohan will join teammate Cathal Pendred on the UFC Fight Night Dublin card this October. Just over a year since both men made winning UFC debuts at the last UFC Dublin card, the two men will look to extend their respective positive UFC records, with Holohan scheduled to face-off against Louis Smolka.

The fight against Smolka will be Holohan’s fifth inside the Octagon, having secured three wins out of four since his UFC debut. Holohan is confident that he will be bringing his UFC record to 4-1 come October. In reference to Smolka’s performance during his last match, a decision win over Neil Seery, Holohan said:

“I didn’t see gaps, I saw craters – massive crevasses… If he grappled with me the same way he grappled with Neil, he’s dead. It’s as simple as that. That’s 100 percent.

“When you look at our games, I just think I’m a better version of him. I think in terms of striking, I hit harder than him.

“If you look at his body, the evidence is there as well, his muscle mass and things like that, he hasn’t filled into his man yet.

“I’m not taking anything away from him. He can fight, he comes willing to fight, he has that Hawaiian chip on his shoulder and I’m looking forward to this fight happening.

“I think the fight makes sense, I’m 3-1 with UFC and he’s the same – it just makes sense.”

Paddy Holohan’s confidence can only be made more concrete knowing that the fight will be taking place in his hometown. While Irish fans have a vocal presence regardless of where SBG Ireland athletes are fighting, there can be no doubt that the reception he’ll receive will only be stronger than ever at the 3Arena in Dublin. It is the same arena (with a new name) in which Holohan made his UFC debut, and the atmosphere that night, he recalls, was unlike anything he has ever experienced. Returning home, with more victories and more fans than last year, will likely only make his reception greater.

Good luck to Paddy, and to Cathal Pendred, in their preparations for UFC Fight Night Dublin!
