More MMA Success for SBG Idaho
Combat Fitness/SBG Idaho At Front Street Fights 7
Combat Fitness/SBG Idaho continued to establish their dominant presence in the Idaho MMA world earlier this month when they featured in five of the card’s fights, including all four pro bouts. Of those fights, three SBG Idaho competitors walked away victorious.
First, Monty Klistoff picked up a win by unanimous decision over Jesse Gengler, showing dominant takedowns and grappling ability throughout the contest. Klistoff secured takedowns in each of the three rounds, and control almost the entirety of his first professional bout.
Also in his first professional fight, Matt Jones of SBG beat Regivaldo Carvalho via submission. Much like his teammate Klistoff before him, Jones dominated the fight with superior grappling, securing takedowns in both rounds and applying constant pressure from top. Before long his opponent was forced to give up his back and Matt Jones was able to apply a rear naked choke to win. It extends his unbeaten run to four wins, all by way of a choke.
Freddy Arteaga was unfortunately stopped early in the first round by TKO, the referee stopping the fight after Arteaga could not respond to the strikes of Yoni Sherbatov. It is Arteaga’s first loss in 2015.
Finally, SBG Idaho’s Scott Thometz lost in the evening’s main-event against UFC veteran Steven Siler. It was a closely fought contest which saw Thometz on top at various points, securing takedowns multiple times and getting the best of a few standing exchanges. Siler’s ground attacks from his back meant that he was awarded those rounds, and ultimately, the fight. It is Thometz’s first defeat of an eventful 2015, which has seen him compete in three exciting, well contested bouts.
