Brian Heenan Wins Amateur Bout
SBG Coach Brian Heenan Wins Fight In Salem
Last Saturday night saw SBG Portland’s stand up Coach Brian Heenan compete in his second amateur MMA fight, in Salem OR. Heenan took on fellow amateur Austin Stephens in a bout as part of the Fight to Defeat ALS card put on by Knucklehead Fight Promotions, in his first fight in close to a year. It has been a frustrating few months for Coach Brian – after his debut fight going down as a loss due to a doctor’s stoppage from a cut (despite Brian’s willingness to continue), Brian has had numerous attempts to find a second fight thwarted by late opponent withdrawals. Indeed, this fight nearly went the way of the others due to some confusion regarding blood work in the week prior, but the technicalities were ironed out, and Brian was free to compete.
The fight itself went very smoothly for Brian; outclassing his opponent with superior striking across the course of three rounds, before the fight went to the ground, and Heenan finished off the affair with a rear naked choke on a flattened out Stephens. A look at both fighters after the match is enough to discern who was better on the night, with Coach Brian coming out of the contest completely unscathed.
If you are fortunate enough to train at SBG Portland, be sure to check out Coach Brian Heenan’s Stand Up Foundations classes on Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 7:30. Coach Brian has a strong boxing background that clearly made the difference in securing a clean, efficient win this weekend. Congratulations to Brian on a great achievement!
