Ais Daly Talks UFC Hamburg
Aisling Daly Eager for UFC Hamburg Opportunity
SBG Ireland’s Aisling Daly spoke with Ireland’s SportsJOE this week, catching up after nearly nine months since her last outing in the Octagon. On that night, Daly fought against Ericka Almeida in her hometown on Dublin, on a card headlined by teammate Paddy Holohan. She won that night, taking her UFC record to 2-1, and it was made extra special by being able to perform in front of her loyal fans:
“The last fight was a surreal experience and sometimes I need to be reminded that it was me walking out because it felt like it was someone else. I have an alter-ego and it felt like it was ‘Ais the Bash’ coming out rather than me. I don’t walk around with that face I had in the second and third round. It was a great night but it was just one night, I have to concentrate on moving forward now.
“I have a very passionate and loyal fan base in MMA. My following has been supporting me ever since 2007, when I made my debut. They’ve been there for me in tiny GAA halls then and they’re there for me in arenas now.”
It is the support of her fans that has led to her push to find a spot on the upcoming UFC Hamburg card in September. A spot on a European card would allow for her supporters to travel in numbers just not possible if she competes in North America. Daly hopes that the Hamburg card in September will work out perfectly, with enough time to recover from some small injuries. Regardless of opponent, Daly is just eager to get back into the Octagon and compete.
